Women veterans group expands in second year. The Pallas Athena Network was formed one year ago by women veterans to provide all women veterans a "safe space" in which they can share experiences with other women who "have been there." The voice of the network, the bimonthly newsletter "Pallas Athena," prints interviews, articles and history as well as letters and creative works by women veter-
ans.
In celebration of its first annivesary, the Network has added several new services designed to provide additional opportunities for women veterans to share experiences, opinions and ideas. “The primary goal of our Network has always been to provide an open environment in which all women veterans could feel free to express themselves about their experiences," says Barbara Sweatt, Network coordinator. “Our new services reflect our committment to opening lines of communications between women veterans.'

Lesbian visibility in playing cards. We really are everywhere--and a Chicago lesbian card club is making sure we are well represented at the poker and bridge tables.
The Queens Rule Poker Club has developed two new card becks: the Dyke Deck and the Queens Rule deck. The decks can be used for any purpose standard playing cards are used. However, there are some special differences.
In each deck the traditional face cards have been replaced by more appropriate personages. The queen is the card with the highest face value, followed by a lady-inwaiting and a maiden. Also, the suits are altered to include a star, crescent moon, labrys, and woman's symbol.
The colorful Dyke Deck and Queens Rule deck ensure that when we play cards, the deck's not stacked against us. The Dyke Deck is a great gift for your favorite lesbians, and the Queens Rule deck is appropriate for mothers, sisters, straight friends, and gay men with a flair for pageantry.
Every home has at least one deck of cards. With the Dyke Deck and the Queens Rule deck, the cards are in our favor.
Decks are available for $7.50 + $1.50 shipping and handling from Queens Rule Poker Club, PO Box 268383-GP, Chicago, IL 60626

Vermont welcomes all skiers. Skiing members of the gay community looking for a place to ski this winter where they can be sure their rights are protected need to look no further than Vermont.
Besides offering the most skiing in the eastern United States, Vermont is one of the few states in the country (and the only major ski state) to have a comprehensive gay rights law. With 14 major ski resorts throughout the state, Vermont offers a wide variety of skiing terrain for all abilities.
According to the Vermont Human Rights Commission, Vermont was the sixth state in the U.S. to pass gay rights legislation, which was enacted into law in July 1992. This anti-discrimination law protects people on the basis of their sexual orientation.
Among the protections which the law provides are making it against the law to discriminate against an individual in a place of public accommodation, employment, housing or credit. Vermont is the only major ski destination state to have gay rights legislation. The other states with comprehensive gay rights laws include Connecticut, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Hawaii and New Jersey.
For more information on Vermont skiing, contact the Vermont Ski Areas Association at 802-223-2439. For more information on Vermont's gay rights legislation, contact the Vermont Human Rights Commission at 802-828-2480.
